Christmas light ride.

Bike Bakersfield's Holiday Lights Ride will once again be offering you a chance to view the holiday lights of the Haggin Oaks community with no pesky car windows to obscure your view. We'll be leaving from the southwest corner of Ming Avenue and Haggin Oaks Drive at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 22nd. We will be collecting non-perishable food items before and after the ride to donate to a to-be-determined charity. Contact tina@bikebakersfield.org for more information. Feel free to download and distribute the flyer.

MSG from Cory Saceaux

If you haven't heard, Douglas Kaiser, the man who hit and killed Alton Saceaux, plead no contest to felony vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated on Monday. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12th. We are putting together a binder full of letters and pictures for the judge to read and see how much Alton's life and death has impacted us. Anyone and everyone, adult or child, who is interested in participating is encouraged to send us your thoughts, feelings, opinions, or pictures. This is the "people's" opportunity to let the judge know what was taken from us as the victims. You can send us a handwritten or typed letter, whether it be just a simple short sentence or a 20 page dissertation. The judge’s name is John Somers. All we ask is that you please keep what you say respectful. The content of this binder will be filed with the case and may affect the judge’s decision on the length and severity of the sentence. Please send everything to Saceaux@gmail.com. Thanks.

Bike shelter proposed on South Third: Germany

Bike shelter proposed on South Third

ThisWeek Community Newspapers
The city of Columbus has proposed building a permanent bike shelter in front of Cup O’ Joe, 627 S. Third St., north of East Sycamore Street and less than 100 feet from the No. 8 COTA bus line.
The German Village location is part of phase two of the bike-shelter program, which is in the discussion stage, said Rick Tilton, the city’s deputy director of public service. It is one of approximately nine sites being considered.
“We don’t know when we’re going to make a decision,” he said. “It probably won’t come for several weeks. There’s no guarantee we’re going to do it at the location in German Village.”
